This is a game changer and I will tell you why
-Wahoo Kickr V4 Review-
It’s been a week since I got this cycling hamster wheel. Let me tell you, this literally changed my life. To me it’s not just a normal cycling trainer, it’s a new lifestyle.
Wahoo Kickr is a bicycle trainer made by the American brand Wahoo. The original Wahoo Kickr was introduced on August 30th of 2012. Since then, it's been one of their longest selling items. There are six models of Wahoo Kickr and the newest model V6 came out in September 2022.
Just like hamsters were born to run, I was born to bike. Although it’s been more than six years since I started riding bicycles for fun, I was never interested in buying one of these. However, that mindset quickly changed when one of my cycling friends offered me the Wahoo Kickr V4 for just $100.
A game changer. The best thing I bought this year so far.
So, what do I think about this machine? To me, this is literally the perfect machine. Yes it is a 5 year old machine and yes I do need to calibrate it once a week for better power accuracy. But the newer Kickr V5 and the V6 are not appealing to me since they have pretty much the same features as the Kickr V4. The only major difference is that the newer models have built-in Wifi (V6) and you don’t need to calibrate them (both the V5 and the V6). The Wahoo Kickr V4 also feels very realistic. Of course it’s nothing like riding on an actual road, but it feels pretty real using Zwift. When approaching a hill on Zwift, I can feel the Kickr slowly putting more resistance on the wheel just like how I feel on a real road. I was amazed about that when I tried Zwift for the first time.
Zwift is the way to go.
Is there anything I don’t like about this machine? There is only one thing that I don’t like about this machine and that is the power accuracy on this machine. The Kickr V4’s power accuracy is ±2%. The newer V5 and the V6 have the same power accuracy of ±1%, meaning the Kickr V4 is slightly inaccurate.
But in conclusion, I am super happy that I got this machine. This literally changed my lifestyle since I wake up early to go on Zwift every day now. It’s super fun and I can’t wait to do more.
